General Solar System Questions
The savings depend on your system size, your daily energy consumption patterns, and your current electricity tariff. On average, Australian homes can significantly reduce their power bills and achieve a payback period of around 3–5 years for a standard system. We provide a personalised savings estimate with every quote.
This depends on your household's annual electricity usage (kW), the orientation and shade of your roof, and your budget. As a general guide, we recommend sizing your system to cover your peak daytime consumption. Our experts will analyse your past energy bills to determine the optimal system size.
Most standard residential solar installations (up to 10kW) are completed within one day. Larger or more complex installations (e.g., commercial or systems requiring switchboard upgrades) may take up to 2–3 days.
Yes, solar panels still generate electricity on cloudy or overcast days, as they use daylight, not just direct sunlight. However, the output will be lower than on a bright, sunny day.
Standard grid-connected solar systems automatically shut down during a blackout for safety reasons (to protect utility workers). If you have a solar battery installed, it will seamlessly switch on to provide backup power to your essential circuits.
Solar Batteries (Storage)
A battery allows you to store excess solar energy generated during the day and use it at night, eliminating your reliance on expensive evening grid power. This helps you achieve near-total energy self-sufficiency and provides backup power during blackouts.
In most cases, yes. We can assess your existing inverter. If it is a standard string inverter, we can install a separate AC-coupled battery or a new Hybrid Inverter setup to make the system battery-ready.
This depends on the battery size (kWh) and the electrical load you run. A typical 10kWh battery can power essential appliances (lights, fridge, Wi-Fi) overnight. If you plan to run air conditioning or ovens, a larger battery system or careful load management is required.
High-quality solar batteries typically come with a 10-year Product and Performance Warranty. This guarantees a certain percentage of energy retention after the warranty period (e.g., 70% capacity after 10 years).
Inverters
The inverter is the "brain" of the solar system. It converts the Direct Current (DC) electricity generated by your panels into Alternating Current (AC) electricity that your home appliances use and that the grid accepts.
String Inverters handle power conversion for all panels in one unit. Microinverters are installed beneath each panel, converting power individually. Microinverters are ideal for roofs with shading issues or complex roof layouts, as one shaded panel won't affect the performance of the others.
If you plan to install a battery now or in the future, a Hybrid Inverter is highly recommended. It manages both the solar power and the battery power from a single, integrated unit, making your system more efficient and future-proof.
EV Chargers, Heat Pumps, and Air Conditioners
Smart EV chargers (like the Tesla Charger or Zappi) can communicate with your solar inverter. They can be set to only charge your vehicle using surplus solar energy, ensuring you drive on clean, free power and maximise your daytime self-consumption.
Yes. Heat pumps use the surrounding air to heat water, rather than generating heat directly. This process makes them up to 70% more energy-efficient than conventional electric hot water systems, saving you significant money when paired with solar.
We install both. We offer Split Systems (ideal for single rooms or small zones) and Ducted Systems (ideal for whole-home climate control). We will assess your home's layout to recommend the most cost-effective and energy-efficient solution.
Installation, Warranty, and Support
You receive three warranties: 1. Product Warranty (10-25 years, covering manufacturing defects). 2. Performance Warranty (up to 25 years on panels, guaranteeing output). 3. Prime Solar Energy Workmanship Warranty (A minimum of 5 years, covering the quality and safety of the installation).
Yes, all of our installation and electrical work is performed by our in-house team or licensed subcontractors who hold the required Clean Energy Council (CEC) accreditation and electrical licenses, ensuring compliance with all Australian standards.
Absolutely. We manage the entire process, including submitting necessary documentation for grid connection approval to your Network Distributor and applying for government rebates (STCs) on your behalf.
Solar systems require very little maintenance. We recommend professional cleaning every 12-18 months, especially in dusty areas, to maintain peak efficiency. We also offer comprehensive system health checks and servicing.
As a local Australian retailer, we offer lifetime support. Simply call us at 1300 899 294 and our local service team will diagnose the issue and handle any warranty claims directly with the manufacturer for you.
